Jane Hughes is a freelance writer who has worked extensively for the national and international press. She also writes to commission for private and public sector organisations and publications.

Jane began working as a journalist whilst living in Japan during the early Nineties. She contributed articles on art, architecture and Japanese society to The Guardian, The New Statesman, The Japan Times and local Japanese press.

After returning to Britain, she trained as a newspaper reporter on the Brighton Evening Argus, gaining a Diploma in Journalism from Westminster Press Training. She then worked as a researcher and writer at Newsweek magazine and as a freelance news reporter at The Times, The Telegraph and The Independent. Later she became a full time news journalist at The Independent on Sunday.

In 2000, she began working freelance and has since contributed articles to The Times, Times Magazine, The Independent, The Mail on Sunday, The Guardian, The Observer, The Sunday Times, The Financial Times, The Daily Mail, The Evening Standard, Red, Marie Claire and Eve.

She has written on subjects ranging from the arts, property, architecture, health, society and international issues to media, management, travel and environment.

She has also been commissioned to write catalogue and magazine essays for the Design Museum, King’s Road Gallery and Institute of Education, and was recently appointed as a regular writer for leading public arts consultancy, Futurecity.

Jane has a BA in political geography from King’s College, London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Policy from the London School of Economics. She speaks French and Japanese.
